2X = 31.6-6.5

X = 25/2 or 12.5

One ladder = x feet

other ladder = x - 6.5  feet


Combine height is 31.5 feet

x + x - 6.5 = 31.5

2x - 6.5 = 31.5

2x = 38

x = 19 feet


One ladder = x = 19 feet

Other ladder = x - 6.5 = 19 - 6.5 = 12.5 feet


19 feet and 12.5 feet
