1.I was raised as a Christian. I am no longer a Christian, because religion instilled certain values into me which it never intended to, by its own examples of superstition, irrationality, and dishonesty.

I have learned not to equate belief with knowledge. Belief starts where knowledge stops. They do not shade into each other; no matter how fervently you believe something, you cannot claim to ‘know’ it, unless you can demonstrate it in a way that can be ‘known’ by those who do not believe it.

I have learned that it is dangerous to accept apparently irrational claims at face value, and that implausible claims, especially relating to the supernatural, would require particularly plausible evidence.

Having studied the Abrahamic religions intensively, they are for the most part, the elevation of mythology to the status of fact, backed up with threats both temporal (stoning, beheading, slavery) and eternal (suffering in Hell). We only have the word of Man that anything is the word of God, and the Abrahamic scriptures were written in an era of universal ignorance, brutality and tribal intolerance.

You only have to pick up a newspaper to see that much of the ignorance, brutality and tribal intolerance in the modern world has religious roots. The world’s most religious country, Saudi Arabia, is not accidentally the most corrupt, inflexible, patriarchal and repressive society in the world, where it is still permissible to marry a child, flog or behead a teenager, or kill a daughter for percieved ‘dishonour’. The ‘values’ religion has instilled here are indistinguishable from barbarity, as were those of the Christian church when it had comparable political power in the centuries before the Age of Reason.

One of the principles influenced by my religion that I adhere in my life would be believing in one God. That there’s only one true God who created us and we should be always thankful to Him. God should also be the center of each one of us, and of every family, because God is love, and we should be grateful for whatever He gives us.

the best guiding principle is the Bible, it leads you into a good path, it is your life compass, everything you need is in the bible without it you will lead astray. As a Christian we need to have this guiding principle that can be found in the word of God, A person cannot be called christian if he/she does not know anything about the bible.
