Stewardship or Kaitiakitanga, in Catholic social teaching principles means being responsible guardians. People who exercising it often called kaitiaki which means guardians of the earth. It is caring for the gifts of God that has been given to us, including the environment, our own talents and other resources. "As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace"(1 Pt 4:10). As children of God, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others and return them with increase to the Lord.
Both are equally important but in my point of view I see mercy as the more important value. I always remind myself of how God said "Forgive others like how I forgave you" and this is where mercy is present. Justice is something only God can truly give. Most of the time, mercy will win over evil, because forgiving can change the heart of people. Though, it really depends on the person and the situation.
